TAF - Aerodrome Forecast
An aerodrome
TAF is a forecast - it will give
the predicted weather conditions expected at an aerodrome, usually for
a 9 or 24 hour period. TAFs are issued for about one third of Australian aerodromes at not less than six hourly
intervals and are usually valid for 12 hours.
METAR - Aerodrome Actual Met Report
The METAR is a report giving the actual weather
conditions at an aerodrome at the time of the report. METAR's are
issued on the hour or half hour, often through automatic weather stations.
ATIS - Automatic Terminal Information Service
The ATIS gives operational runway/s, wind,
temperature, visibility and other significent terminal information. Each update is
given a alphabetic character designator i.e. ALPHA then BRAVO etc.
